PORTAL
The idea for the portal and the guidance in creating it came from a youtube tutorial by FX Hive.

Setup in 3DS Max
Apply FumeFX
Render with Krakatoa
I changed the wind from a clockwise direction to an anti-clockwise direction to get rid of the fan effect at the top of the portal.
I turned on the colour override setting and changed the particle colour to white.
I increased the amount of particles to create a denser more detailed look.
Adding spot lights.
Increased the amount of particles (I think this is to much).
Something has gone terribly wrong.
Quick basic render to try work out what has gone wrong.
Make emitters thinner and scale up.
Check everything is still working in FumeFX simulation.
Add motion blur. Colour correct in after effects.

Add PF source emitter and assign it to the FumeFX simple source.
Animate colour changing material and assign it to PF source.
Add camera and choose perspective.
Test render 1 from camera perspective.
Test render 2 from camera perspective with an increase in particles.

Worked out that the wind wasn't affecting the particles because I hadn't included it as a force in my particle system. Then I could see the simulation in my viewport and adjust the speed of the particles and the force of the wind until I achieved a similar effect to what is seen in the reference video.
